She earned a master’s degree in Law and Gender from SOAS, University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies), where she was a Governance and Development in Africa scholar, funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. Her academic work has been characterized by rigorous research and a commitment to understanding how legal frameworks can better serve women and marginalized groups. Hilina’s scholarly contributions have significantly informed her advocacy work, providing a solid foundation for policy reform and community engagement.

Founding the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Ethiopia

Recognizing the need for grassroots empowerment, Hilina co-founded the YWCA of Ethiopia, an organization dedicated to empowering young women through education, leadership development, and advocacy. Under her leadership, YWCA Ethiopia has implemented numerous programs to promote gender equality, provide vocational training, and foster women’s leadership.
