The call for applications for the 2026/2027 GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders has been issued. A total of three scholarships are being offered to advance the training of the next generation of leaders in global health, thereby enhancing the capability of health systems and research related to health across Africa.
These awards, for which competition is intense, are open to prospective students who plan to enroll in a one-year, full-time, in-person MSc programme based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- hold nationality in, and be currently living in, a sub-Saharan African country; and
- plan to return to sub-Saharan Africa after finishing their MSc year at LSHTM; and
- confirm via the online scholarship portal that the proposed programme of study could not be funded personally without this scholarship; and
- possess a first degree equivalent to a first or upper second class; and
- have received an offer of admission for the 2026-27 academic year for one of LSHTM’s intensive London-based MSc programmes.
- Note: LSHTM’s minimum English language requirements must be met by Monday 15 June 2026. Failure to meet this condition can lead to the withdrawal of a scholarship offer and its reallocation to another candidate.
Award details
Three scholarships will be awarded for the 2026-27 academic year. Each award provides coverage for:
- tuition fees, which include any compulsory field trip fees, and
- a living allowance (stipend) of GBP 22,000.00, which is tax-free.
How to apply
The application is a two-step process. To be eligible for this funding, candidates must satisfy all the eligibility criteria and finalise both of the steps detailed below before the deadline of 16:00 (BST) on Wednesday 04 March 2026.
Step 1
An application for admission to a London-based MSc programme for the 2026-27 intake must be submitted. Instructions are found under the ‘How to Apply’ section on the relevant programme page.
Step 2
Following the submission of a study application, an automated email containing a link to the online scholarships application portal will be sent by the Scholarships team (scholarships@lshtm.ac.uk).
- A temporary password for first-time login (via e-vision) will be provided, which should then be updated.
- Applicants should locate ‘GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders’ to apply and complete all online questions.
- Once submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the provided contact address.
Please note that the scholarships portal will close after the stated deadline.
Applicants will be contacted by the Scholarships team in due course. A final decision will be made, and successful candidates will be notified during the week starting 1 June 2026.
Important information:
- These scholarships are available for applicants to any of LSHTM’s intensive, in-person Masters programmes, excluding the joint programmes: MSc Global Mental Health; MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing; MSc One Health; and MSc Veterinary Epidemiology.
- Completing Step 1 well in advance is advised to allow time for the processing of the GBP 50.00 LSHTM admissions application fee. Study applications cannot be submitted until this payment is processed.
- To avoid any delays from Admissions or payment processing that might affect meeting the scholarship deadline, applicants should submit their study application at least 2-3 days beforehand.
- Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the deadline will not be considered. This includes applications with missing documentation in either Step 1 or Step 2.
- Both the study application and the scholarship application must be fully completed by the scholarship deadline listed. All required supplementary documents must be uploaded to LSHTM’s Admissions Portal by this date.
- English Language Requirements: Evidence of meeting the English Language proficiency requirement must be supplied to the Admissions team by Monday 15 June 2026. Failure to comply may result in a scholarship offer being withdrawn and offered to another candidate.
