The FREE STEM Fund, a pioneering global initiative, narrows the gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with support from the Optiver Foundation. Girls, women, transgender, and non-binary individuals are empowered to thrive, lead, and innovate in STEM through this initiative. Inclusive, community-driven projects that create equal opportunities and transform STEM education, research, and careers are invested in by the FREE STEM Fund. A world where girls, women, transgender, and non-binary people are widely represented and empowered to succeed in STEM is envisioned.
Initiatives adopting intersectional and inclusive approaches to empower gender-diverse changemakers in STEM are supported by the Fund. Systemic barriers are challenged, equitable participation is promoted, and underrepresented voices in science and technology are amplified.
Eligibility
Nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, community groups, or grassroots initiatives advancing gender equity in STEM are eligible. Organizations serving communities with limited access to STEM education or career opportunities, incorporating intersectional, inclusive, and participatory approaches, and demonstrating a commitment to building long-term, systemic change in STEM can apply.
Funding Priorities
Projects promoting access to quality STEM education and training, creating pathways for women, transgender, and non-binary individuals to enter STEM careers, supporting mentorship, leadership, and visibility of gender-diverse STEM role models, and engaging communities to challenge stereotypes and structural barriers receive investment.
