Call for Proposals: Feminist Events Dedicated to the National Day Against Domestic Violence – Armenia

Background

On October 1, 2010, 20-year-old Zaruhi Petrosyan died tragically as a result of brutal beatings by her husband. This was not the only case of domestic violence in Armenia, but its cruelty and the public outcry it sparked shook society. Following this incident, several civil society organizations concerned about domestic violence came together to form the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women. Their demands included fair trials, prevention of domestic violence cases, and reforms in the legislative field. Since then, the Coalition has marked October 1 as the National Day Against Domestic Violence.

About the Call

As part of this call, grants will support feminist gatherings and a variety of events and actions dedicated to feminist goals, community empowerment, and inspiring change. We welcome applications that align with our mission and focus on raising awareness about domestic violence, addressing and preventing it, reflecting on its gendered dimensions, amplifying the voices of systemically ignored groups in the context of domestic violence, and challenging patriarchal structures.

Grant Details

• Grant Amount: Up to 500,000 AMD (including taxes)
• Event Period: October 1–7, 2026
• Location: Armenia
• Application Deadline: September 3, 2026 (inclusive)
• Notification of Results: By September 15, 2026

Eligible Activities

Supported events and actions may include but are not limited to:

• Feminist gatherings and community meetings
• Awareness-raising campaigns about domestic violence
• Educational events addressing the prevention of domestic violence
• Workshops or discussions reflecting on the gendered dimensions of domestic violence
• Events amplifying the voices of systemically ignored groups (e.g., survivors, marginalized communities)
• Actions challenging patriarchal structures that enable violence
• Artistic or cultural events addressing domestic violence and feminist goals

• Civil society organizations
• Feminist groups and collectives
• Community-based organizations
• Informal groups and grassroots initiatives (if eligible under local regulations)

Note: Preference may be given to organizations and groups aligned with the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women’s mission and values.

Why This Call Matters

The National Day Against Domestic Violence, observed on October 1, commemorates the life of Zaruhi Petrosyan and the many other women who have suffered from domestic violence in Armenia. It is a day of remembrance, solidarity, and action. The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women has worked since 2010 to demand fair trials, prevention of domestic violence, and legislative reform.
