About the RedChair Scholarships
Half of the world’s population is made up of women, yet equal participation in inventing the technology needed to solve today’s difficult societal problems is not held by them. The imbalance is to be corrected by RedChairPGH, and a stronger local technical talent pool is to be fostered through the efforts of Pittsburgh companies and the technical community. A future is envisioned by us in which the standard for developing and retaining a diverse technical community is set by Pittsburgh. Through funds generated by event sponsorship and received as generous donations, a scholarship program has been established by RedChairPGH. The RedChairPGH scholarship has been created for leadership development programs aimed at a mid-career woman in tech.
How Do We Define A “Mid-Career Woman in Tech”?
The entry level (for example, her first job after school) has been moved past by a mid-career professional, but the end of her career (such as retirement) is not yet being approached by her. Neither age nor years of experience are used to define “mid-career”; rather, it is a professional who has not yet attained an executive role. Being “in tech” is defined as either the practice of a profession within Information Technology, Information Systems, or Computer Science, or employment at a Tech Company for an individual. A practitioner could be categorized under one of these four verticals: Infrastructure/Operations/Support, Software Development Lifecycle, Project Management Office, and/or Creative/Interactive/Design.
Scholarship Timeline
- Applications Open: April 1, 2026
- Applications Close: April 30, 2026
- Selected Scholarship Recipients Notified By: May 22, 2026 (using the email address provided in their application)
- Scholarship Winners Publicly Announced: During the week of June 2, 2026
What We Expect
The following expectations are held by us for you, should a scholarship be received by you:
- Your calendar will be cleared, distractions will be minimized, and participation with an open mind will be ensured by you.
- It is committed by you that the program associated with your received scholarship will be fully completed.
- Serving as a mentor to a younger or less experienced woman in technology is something you will consider.
- Alongside the other recipients, a video or slideshow will be participated in by you, with the impact of the scholarship experience being shared.
What To Expect as a Scholarship Applicant
April 1, 2026, is when applications for scholarships are opened, and April 30, 2026, is when they are closed. Using the email address provided in their application, selected scholarship recipients will have been notified by May 22, 2026. During the week of June 2, 2026, a public announcement of scholarship winners will be made.
