About the Fellowship

The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting applications for its South to South Fellowship Programme 2026. This fellowship is specifically designed for women in all their diversities, including those belonging to minority and marginalized groups, from APWLD member and partner organizations across Asia and the Pacific. The South to South Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for young feminist activists and women’s rights advocates to deepen their understanding of regional feminist analysis, strengthen their organizing and advocacy skills, and contribute to APWLD’s work on women’s human rights and development in the Asia-Pacific region. The South-to-South Fellowship provides a critical pathway for young women activists to gain regional exposure, develop their skills, and contribute to the broader women’s rights movement in Asia and the Pacific. By working with APWLD, fellows deepen their understanding of regional issues, build solidarity across borders, and strengthen their capacity to advocate for women’s human rights in their home countries. The requirement to return and work with the recommending organization for double the fellowship period ensures that the knowledge and skills gained are shared and multiplied within local movements, creating a sustainable impact that extends beyond the individual fellow.

About The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD)

The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is a regional feminist network of women’s rights organizations and individuals. APWLD works to strengthen the women’s movement in Asia and the Pacific through feminist analysis, capacity building, advocacy, and organizing. The South to South Fellowship is one of APWLD’s key initiatives to nurture the next generation of feminist leaders in the region.

Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:

• Monthly Stipend: USD $800 per month for the duration of the Fellowship
• Professional Development: Hands-on experience working with a regional feminist organization
• Networking Opportunities: Connections with women’s rights activists and organizations across Asia and the Pacific
• Skill Enhancement: Opportunities to develop skills in advocacy, research, organizing, and regional cooperation

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Organizational Affiliation:

• Be a staff member or active member of an APWLD member or partner organization from countries in Asia and the Pacific region
• Must be recommended by that organization through an official endorsement letter

Demographic Criteria:

• Be a young woman (below 35 years of age at the time of application)
• Have not held an executive position within the recommending organization

Experience and Knowledge:

• Have at least 2-5 years of experience in the women’s movement at local or national level
• Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of women’s human rights and development issues in Asia and the Pacific
• Demonstrate commitment to feminist principles and women’s rights advocacy

Availability and Commitment:

• Be committed and available to undertake the Fellowship for a minimum of six months
• Be able to work remotely from their home country during the fellowship period
• Provide a written commitment or agreement with the recommending national organization to work (as paid staff or volunteer) for a double period upon return (e.g., if the Fellowship with APWLD was for six months, return service should be for one year)

Skills:

• Proficient in English, both oral and written
• Proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills
• Previous experience in event coordination, administrative, or liaison roles is considered an asset

4. Endorsement Letter – Official letter of recommendation from an APWLD member or partner organization
5. Writing Sample – A sample of written work authored by the applicant that demonstrates knowledge relevant to the role
