Applications are now open for the 2026 British Council Women in STEM Scholarships. This prestigious initiative, delivered in partnership with UK universities, provides full financial support for women from eligible countries to pursue a one-year master’s degree in a STEM field at leading UK institutions. The scholarships are designed to support women who can demonstrate financial need and a passion for their chosen subject, with the goal of empowering them to become leaders and innovators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program ultimately aims to contribute to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement in the scholars’ home countries.

Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be a woman and a permanent resident of an eligible country (list varies yearly; typically includes countries in South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas)
• Hold a first degree (Bachelor’s) that will enable them to gain entry into a postgraduate master’s programme at a UK university
• Demonstrate financial need – applicants must not be able to fund their studies privately
• Meet the English language requirements of the chosen UK university
• Have not studied or worked recently (typically within 12 months) at a UK university
• Return to their home country for a minimum of two years after completing their studies
• Show commitment to engaging other women and girls in STEM in their home country

Note: Priority is given to candidates who have not had significant international exposure or previously studied in the UK.

How to Apply

3. Submit Scholarship Application: Once you have received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional), you can typically apply for the British Council scholarship via a separate application form provided by the university or the British Council.
