About the Mini-Grant
Applications are now being accepted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) for its Mini-Grant program, through which innovative, community-based projects that promote inclusion, leadership, and participation of women and girls in astronomy and STEM are supported. A valuable opportunity is presented by this initiative for organizations and individuals working to close gender gaps in science and create more inclusive pathways into astronomy and related fields. Impactful, grassroots projects that encourage women and girls to engage with astronomy and STEM disciplines are funded through the IAU Mini-Grant. Initiatives that build leadership skills, expand access, and foster long-term participation in scientific communities are focused on by the program. Creativity, community engagement, and a clear plan for impact must be demonstrated by projects.

Why This Grant Matters
Significant underrepresentation of women and girls persists in astronomy and many STEM fields, despite recent progress. Lack of role models, limited access to mentorship, and cultural norms that discourage girls from pursuing scientific careers are among the barriers.
These barriers are addressed by the IAU Mini-Grant through several approaches:
- Grassroots, community-based projects that reach girls and women where they are are funded
- Initiatives that build leadership skills and long-term engagement are supported
- Inclusion and diversity within scientific communities are promoted
- Creative, impactful projects with clear plans for change are encouraged
For educators, community organizers, STEM advocates, and nonprofit leaders working to close gender gaps in astronomy and STEM, a funding pathway to turn ideas into action is offered by this mini-grant.
