The Alliance of Women Directors (AWD) is dedicated to supporting the careers of women and gender-expansive directors in the film industry. As part of this mission, AWD is proud to announce the Rising Director Fellowship, a year-long program designed to help talented directors transition from short-form work to their first narrative feature.
What is the Rising Director Fellowship?
This prestigious fellowship offers a unique opportunity for women and gender-expansive directors to develop their skills, network with industry stakeholders, and take their careers to the next level. As a fellow, you’ll benefit from:
- Workshops and mentorship to help you refine your craft
- Guidance and development of your script, pitch, and portfolio
- Opportunity to produce proof-of-concept short films with support from sponsors
- Final screening event and networking with industry guests
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be an AWD Directing Member in good standing
- Not have directed a narrative feature film (documentaries are allowed)
- Have experience in short-form works (films, music videos, etc.)
- Have a feature script attachment (your own or another writer’s)
Key Dates & Commitments
- Application window: October 6, 2025, 9:00 a.m. PT – October 26, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PT
- Interviews: November 2025
- Fellows announced December 2025, with program commencing January 2026
- Fellows participate in monthly sessions, networking, and proof-of-concept production over the year
