About the Program
The WomenLift Health Leadership Journey is a year-long investment in the leadership development of talented and committed mid- to senior-level women working in health. By strengthening participants’ leadership skills, confidence, and ability to influence change, the programme aims to create lasting benefits for both the individuals and the institutions they serve. In response to growing demand for the model across Africa and Asia, the 2027 Leadership Journeys will focus on these two regions. Applications for the 2027 Journeys will therefore not be open in North America. This regional focus does not reflect a change in WomenLift Health’s belief in the importance of women’s leadership in North America, nor does it alter the organisation’s ongoing commitment to its North America Global Fellows. Applications for the 2027 Leadership Journeys are now open.
About The WomenLift Health Leadership Journey Program
The WomenLift Health Leadership Journey is designed to begin and end with better health outcomes. It supports mid- to senior-level women in health to strengthen the mindsets, practical skills, and strategic perspective they need to lead effectively in increasingly complex environments. As participants grow in confidence and leadership capability, they are better prepared to take on higher-impact roles and guide meaningful change across their teams, organisations, and the wider health sector. Grounded in evidence-based leadership frameworks, the Journey is shaped by a human-centred design process. It draws on the professional expertise and lived experiences of women leaders working across varied health systems and institutional settings. This approach helps ensure that the learning is relevant to participants’ real-world challenges and can be applied in their own contexts. Participants return to their organisations with sharper leadership insight and practical tools to foster collaboration, encourage innovation, and advance more inclusive ways of working. The benefits extend beyond individual career development: participants can contribute to stronger leadership cultures, more responsive institutions, and greater strategic impact in health. The program begins by grounding participants in the why of health leadership: why leadership matters, what change is sought, and what is at stake. From there, participants dive into the who who they are as health leaders, as individuals, how they build trust and relationships, and how they mobilize and develop others. This is not a linear path. Participants return to impact again and again, each time with deeper self-awareness, stronger relationships, and more strategic clarity. The leadership journey begins and ends with health impact.
