TechGirls 2026 is a fully funded international summer exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. This transformative experience is designed to empower and inspire girls (aged 15–17) from around the world with advanced skills and leadership training in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The intensive 23-day program in the United States combines academic workshops, cultural immersion, and professional mentorship. Participants return home equipped not only with new knowledge but also with the support to launch impactful community projects.

Program Overview

TechGirls connects the next generation of women leaders in STEM through a dynamic, hands-on curriculum. The program is structured to build both technical competencies and essential leadership qualities, fostering a global network of peers and mentors.

The U.S.-based experience includes:

  • Interactive STEM Workshops: Intensive, hands-on technology training and coding camps hosted at Virginia Tech.
  • Leadership & Career Development: Sessions focused on public speaking, project management, and career pathways in STEM fields.
  • Cultural Exchange: Visits to leading tech companies, cultural sites, and homestays with American families to promote mutual understanding.
  • Project Incubation: Guidance to develop a plan for a Community-Based Project (CBP) to be implemented after returning home.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be female, aged 15–17 (as of the start of the program in July 2026).
  • Be a legal resident of an eligible country or territory (list available on the official website).
  • Demonstrate a proven and strong interest in STEM through academic coursework, extracurricular activities, or related projects.
  • Possess advanced English language skills (verbal and written) to participate fully in an academic setting.
  • Exhibit leadership potential and a commitment to community service.
  • Meet the criteria to receive a U.S. J-1 exchange visitor visa.
  • Be committed to completing a community-based project upon returning home.

Program Benefits

The TechGirls program is fully funded. Selected participants receive:

  • Round-trip international airfare from their home country to the United States.
  • Domestic U.S. travel for program activities.
