Call for Proposals: Western and Eastern Anglophone Africa Regional Capacity-Building Workshop in Nigeria

About the Call

Are you a past GEF Small Grants Programme grantee with experience delivering international workshops and strategic knowledge management initiatives? GEF SGP Nigeria is seeking eligible organisations to organise the 2026 Western and Eastern Anglophone Africa Regional Capacity-Building Workshop. The workshop will be held in Nigeria in November 2026 and will bring together approximately 35 participants, including National Coordinators, grantees, NSC members, UNDP Country Office representatives, the SGP Regional Focal Point, and SGP CPMT. Participants will be drawn from 12 countries: Cape Verde, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Workshop Objectives

The specific objectives include:

• Review implementation of Operational Phase 7 in terms of landscape approaches, country-level targets, results achieved, challenges, and stocktaking of lessons and good practices generated at the country and project levels
• Discuss GEF 8 Strategic Objectives and Vision
• Review progress made in terms of Transition to UNDP (Operational, Administrative and grant-making under OP8); identify common issues and challenges as well as solutions
• Share experiences and peer learning through a field visit to one SGP-selected project
• Discuss the Framework for SGP future opportunities for Resource Mobilisation and Sustainability, including GEF 9 STAR Negotiations at country levels, Private sector partnerships, Replication and Scaling up of SGP initiatives, opportunity for transboundary initiatives under Africa Region, etc.
• Communicate SGP work – production of a documentary and a publication on SGP work and impact stories for the West and East Africa Anglophone Region
• Provide an opportunity for SGP National Coordinators to address specific country concerns with CPMT Regional Focal Point and SGP CPMT

Terms of Reference

The grantee will be responsible for the following activities:

1. Organise one Africa Sub-regional workshop in Abuja for about 35 participants from 12 participating countries. The grant will cover airfares, accommodation, subsistence costs, and conference package. The grantee will coordinate all pre-, during, and post-logistic issues regarding the workshop with support from the SGP office
2. Organise a project site visit to an SGP-selected project. Costs to be covered include transport hire, accommodation, and subsistence costs during the project site visit
3. Produce a video documentary of the project site visit
4. Produce a publication showcasing the projects presented at the Africa Sub-region workshop from the participating SGP countries in terms of project results, impact and lessons learnt as well as individual projects best practice cases
5. Production of workshop materials including t-shirts, pens, jackets and reusable or biodegradable bags for workshop participants
6. Production of the workshop report

Outputs

• Africa Sub-region workshop report
• Publication of SGP impact stories under Africa Sub-region featuring projects showcased at the workshop
• Individual project case studies
• Video documentary on project site visit

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

1. Be a past SGP Grantee
2. Have experience in organising an international workshop
3. Have experience in strategic Knowledge Management
4. Have experience handling SGP grants of not less than $50,000
5. Have experience in Partnership Building and Resource Mobilisation

Grant Details

• Maximum Grant Amount: Up to US$100,000
• Co-financing: Applicants must provide evidence of secured commensurate co-financing of at least $100,000 in cash or in kind
• Project Duration: Four months starting from July. Complete reports must be submitted no later than two weeks after the Regional Workshop
