About the Scholarships

Applications are now open for the 2027 Canon Collins Trust Tom Queba and Pegasys Scholarships, an esteemed opportunity for students committed to making a meaningful social impact through their academic pursuits. The Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Tom Queba Memorial Fund and Pegasys, invites motivated individuals to apply for scholarships to undertake Honours and Masters studies at South African universities in 2027. These scholarships will provide funding for a maximum of two years, supporting students financially while also offering opportunities to develop their academic and leadership skills through organised events, workshops, and networking opportunities. The core requirement for applicants is that their proposed studies must contribute directly to social and/or environmental development, with a particular focus on improving the lives and livelihoods of the poorest communities in South Africa. The scholarship program emphasizes social change and encourages research and initiatives in areas such as justice, education, humanities and the arts, as well as sciences and applied sciences. This initiative aims to nurture future leaders and change-makers committed to addressing pressing societal challenges and fostering sustainable development across the country.

Eligibility Requirements

You should:

  • In terms of definitions provided in South African BEE law, be a black or coloured South African national residing in South Africa
  • Be under 34 years of age at the commencement of your course
  • Be in possession of a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application
  • Be studying or applying to study at Honours or Masters level at a South African university

Scholarship Benefits

  • In 2026, the value of the scholarship package is R85,000. Funding will be provided for up to a maximum of two years
  • The program supports both full and part-time study and will consider applications from those who wish to study by distance learning
  • Canon Collins also organise an annual conference for current scholars, and hold several smaller events throughout the year. Scholarship holders are expected to participate in these activities and to become part of and contribute to our network
