About the Scholarship

Applications are now open for the 2027 German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships. Apply for the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) of the German Bundestag to gain in-depth knowledge of parliamentary work and complete a three-month internship in a Member of Parliament’s office. Young university graduates from 50 countries worldwide in the following regions are eligible to apply: North and South America, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, East and Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania.

Eligibility Requirements

Citizens of the participating countries who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Are under 30 years old at the start of the program
  • Have completed a university degree
  • Have very good German skills (at least B2 CEFR)
  • Have a strong interest in political contexts as well as social/political engagement

Scholarship Benefits

  • Monthly stipend of approximately 500 euros
  • Accommodation allowance
  • Health, accident, and personal liability insurance covered
  • Travel expenses to and from Berlin (partially subsidized)
  • Internship in a Member of Parliament’s office
  • Orientation and support from the German Bundestag
  • Access to seminars, workshops, and study trips in Berlin and other parts of Germany

The program runs from March 1 to July 31, 2027. During this time, participants complete an internship in the office of a Member of the German Bundestag, attend lectures on parliamentary procedures, and participate in study trips and seminars.

Application Requirements

Please send your application as a single PDF file (named Last Name-First Name) by email to the German embassy in your home country. The PDF file must not exceed a maximum size of 10 MB. If the PDF file exceeds 10 MB, please split your application documents into several emails. Please do not send ZIP files.

Your application is only complete with the following documents:

  1. Application form (to be completed in German)
  2. Proof of very good German language skills (at least B2 CEFR)
  3. Letter of motivation in German (max. 2 pages)
  4. University degree certificate (original or officially certified copy in English or German)
  5. Two recent letters of recommendation (in German or English) assessing the professional qualifications for the IPS program (according to the letter of recommendation guidelines)
  6. Copy of passport or national identity card as proof of nationality of one of the participating countries
  7. photo for your application as an image file (JPEG or another common image format)
