Why These Awards Matter

Disasters do not discriminate, but their impacts often do. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by natural hazards, climate change, and disasters due to existing gender inequalities. Yet women are also powerful agents of change leading community preparedness, advocating for inclusive policies, and driving innovative solutions to reduce disaster risk. The WIN DRR Leadership Awards address this paradox by:

  • Recognizing women’s leadership in disaster risk reduction across the Asia-Pacific region
  • Providing financial support (US$7,500–US$10,000) to further awardees’ work
  • Offering regional visibility within the DRR community
  • Supporting the Sendai Framework Gender Action Plan by highlighting women’s critical role
  • Inspiring future generations of women leaders in disaster resilience

For women working in disaster risk reduction, resilience, and climate adaptation in Asia-Pacific countries, these awards offer recognition, funding, and a platform to amplify their impact.
