Call for Proposals: FIMI International Indigenous Women’s Forum – Ayni Fund 2026

Application Deadline: June 30, 2026

About the Fund

Applications for its Ayni Fund 2026 are currently being accepted by FIMI – International Indigenous Women’s Forum. To support Indigenous Women-led organizations and movements, the Ayni Fund is a global funding mechanism created. Beyond grantmaking, technical accompaniment and capacity-strengthening support are provided by the fund to help organizations increase their impact, sustainability, and leadership. At community, national, regional, and international levels, strengthening Indigenous Women’s participation in decision-making processes while advancing human rights, self-determination, and collective well-being is sought by the programme. To many Indigenous cultures, a Quechua word that refers to the principle of reciprocity and mutual support is “Ayni”. As a partnership based on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared commitment to Indigenous women’s rights, true to its name, the Ayni Fund operates. Of Indigenous women leaders and organizations, a global network that works to promote Indigenous women’s rights and leadership worldwide is FIMI (International Indigenous Women’s Forum).

Scope of Proposals: With different scopes and levels of impact, proposals are valued and supported:

  • Community, local, and grassroots initiatives
  • Projects with national and regional scope

Whether your organization works at the community level or has national or regional reach, proposals that align with its mission of strengthening Indigenous women’s leadership and participation are welcomed by the Ayni Fund.

Why This Fund Matters

Multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination are faced by Indigenous women: as women within patriarchal systems, as Indigenous peoples within colonial and post-colonial states, and often as poor and marginalized people within global economic structures. Yet at the forefront of struggles for land rights, environmental justice, cultural survival, and self-determination, Indigenous women are also leaders, knowledge-keepers, and organizers. Despite their leadership, Indigenous women-led organizations are chronically underfunded. Requirements (such as legal registration, audited financial statements, or English-language proposals) that exclude grassroots Indigenous organizations are often imposed by mainstream donors. Through several approaches, the Ayni Fund addresses these barriers:

  • Indigenous women-led organizations and movements are funded directly
  • Technical accompaniment (advice, tools, ongoing guidance) not just money is provided
  • Community, local, and grassroots initiatives not only large, registered NGOs are welcomed
  • Proposals at all scales – from community projects to national and regional initiatives, are supported
  • Based on reciprocity and mutual respect (Ayni), in partnership is how the fund works

For Indigenous women-led groups and organizations that have not previously received Ayni Fund support, an opportunity to access funding and accompaniment to strengthen their work and advance Indigenous women’s rights, self-determination, and collective well-being is offered by this fund.
