About the Grants

A grant-making programme focused on reducing female youth involvement in the criminal justice system is what the Triangle Trust represents. Organisations delivering targeted interventions, prevention work, and rehabilitation-focused services for young women and girls are supported by it. Around a Theory of Change that emphasises long-term behavioural and social outcomes, the programme is built. Distinct needs that are often not met by mainstream services are recognised by the Triangle Trust as being possessed by young women and girls in or at risk of entering the criminal justice system. To diverting them from offending and supporting their rehabilitation, gender-specific, trauma-informed, and relationship-based approaches are essential.

Grant Benefits

• Grants of up to £100,000 for a duration of 18, 24, 30, or 36 months are offered

Why These Grants Matter

Often a hidden population are young women and girls in the criminal justice system. A small percentage of the overall justice-involved youth population is made up by them, but distinct pathways into offending often linked to trauma, abuse, exploitation and mental health challenges are possessed by them, which generic youth offending services are not designed to address.

A critical gap is filled by the Triangle Trust by:

• Funding specialist services for young women and girls
• Requiring gender and trauma-informed approaches – recognising that effective interventions must account for the specific experiences of girls and young women
• Centring lived experience – ensuring that those who have been through the system inform programme design
• Supporting prevention and rehabilitation – not just crisis response
• Offering multi-year funding (up to 36 months) – enabling sustainable, relationship-based work

Eligibility Requirements

Organisational Status: Applicants must be one of the following:

• A registered charity
• A not-for-profit social enterprise, or
• A community interest company working within the UK, with a UK office

If a social enterprise and/or community interest company: A governing document which shows their name, aim/purpose, objects of the group, including a dissolution clause (what happens if your group ceases to function) must be possessed.

Organisational Type:
One of the following must be true for applicants:

• A women and girls led organisation working only with women and girls, OR
• An “Expert” organisation working primarily or exclusively in one or more of the following areas:

• County lines
• Gangs
• Young people who are care-experienced
• Young people at risk of exclusion from education
• Young people who have been excluded from education

Target Beneficiaries:

• Solely for young women and girls, all projects must be
• April funding round age group: 11–18 years old
• September funding round age group: 17–30 years old

Demonstrated Experience:
By applicants, their organisation must be shown to:

• Have experience of working with young women and girls in the criminal justice system
• Be gender and trauma informed
• Put lived experience at the core of its projects

Financial Thresholds:

• A maximum annual income threshold of £5 million per annum is set
• Independent examination or auditing of their annual accounts must be undergone by applicants

Previous Applicants:

• Only if they are in the final year of their grant can applicants already in receipt of a grant apply for further funding, even if a different project is being applied for
• A wait of 12 months or more from the submission date to reapply is required of previous applicants
• Unless agreed with a member of the Grants Team, application for exactly the same project cannot be made by previous applicants

Projects that meet the following criteria are sought by the Triangle Trust:

• Address the specific needs of young women and girls involved in or at risk of entering the criminal justice system
• Use gender-informed and trauma-informed approaches
• Centre lived experience in programme design and delivery
• Possess a clear Theory of Change with measurable long-term outcomes
• Show potential for reducing female youth involvement in the criminal justice system
