Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 cohort of the Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship. This distinguished program supports emerging leaders women across Canada employed in health and social care who aim to serve on non-profit healthcare boards and assume governance roles with confidence.
About the Fellowship
This professional development program is offered at no cost and delivers foundational training in healthcare governance, board recruitment, and leadership. Participants obtain practical skills, strategic guidance, and a defined path to board service through instruction from leading governance faculty, recruitment specialists, and experienced women board members.
Program Structure & Time Commitment
Over a four-month period, the Fellowship involves approximately 10 total hours of participation. The schedule includes three core sessions and one optional event:
- Session 1: Boardroom Basics
Tuesday, March 3rd | 8:00–10:00 AM | Virtual
This governance “Legal 101” session covers the fundamentals of non-profit boards and outlines the responsibilities of Directors. - Session 2: Rise to the Top
Tuesday, April 21st | 12:00–2:00 PM | Virtual
Attendees will learn to navigate the board recruitment process in this hands-on workshop, which includes crafting a board biography, improving applications, and preparing for interviews. - Session 3: Leadership and Influence
Wednesday, June 17th | 4:00–6:30 PM | In-person, Toronto
Women leaders currently holding board director and officer positions in healthcare will share insights during this panel discussion.
Program Cost
Through the generous support of program partners Mirams Becker and Miller Thomson LLP, the Fellowship is provided free of charge. Travel costs for the Toronto session are the only expense for which applicants are responsible. An enrollment confirmation letter is available for individuals requesting employer support.
Who Should Apply?
The program invites applications from:
- Women working in healthcare or social care, regardless of career stage
- Those with an interest in board governance who wish to create strategic impact
- Women pursuing their first board role or in the initial phase of their board involvement
- Applicants residing in Canada (nationwide)
This program suits women seeking to enhance their understanding of board dynamics, build governance competencies, and contribute effectively to organizational leadership.
How to Apply
Prospective participants must submit the online application form by Tuesday, January 6th. The selection process will evaluate applicants based on their authenticity, motivation, and dedication to impacting health and social care. With only 30 positions available, all applicants will receive notification following the review process.
